Abstract

The aim of the resesarch was to find out the effectiveness of scientific approach
in teaching writing. This research used quasi experimental method in which sample was
based on the school policy. Two classes were chosen eight A as the experimental class
and eight B as the control class. Pre-test and post-test were used to find the data. The test
was writing paragraph descriptive text. T-test formula was used to analyze the data. The
result of the resesarch showed that there was a significant difference of t
he students‟
ability in writing paragraph between students who were taught using scientific approach
and those who were taught using conventional approach. It could be seen on the result of
computation of t-test, where t-value is 3.5647 and t-table is 1.6715 at the significant level
α= 0,05 in df =58. The results was higher that t
-table (3.5647
˃
1.6715). it means that the
hypothesis
of
scientific approach was effective in teaching writing was accepted
