Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of teaching
re
ading narrative text through Picturial Story Book. This research was
conducted at SMP N 4 Mrebet in academic 2013/2014. This research
used quasi experiment method. The total sample was 60 respondents.
The respondents were divided two classes into: control class and
experiment class. In collecting data, this research used test as
instrument. The test was administrated twice. The first was pre-test, and
the second was post-test. The form of the test was multiple-choice test.
After getting the data, this
research used t-test computation to analyze
the data
. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that the result
of t-test was 3.520, while the t-table score at the significant level
ɑ
=0.05 for
df
= 58 was 1.672, so, the t-test value was higher than t-
table (3.520>1.672). It means that the hypothesis which stated that
Picturial Story Book technique is effective to teach reading narrative
text at the second grade students of SMP N 4 Mrebet in academic
2013/2014 was accepted.
