Abstract

This experimental research aimed at
discovering whether movie trailer is
effective for teaching speaking. It was done on the tenth grade students of
S
okaraja 1 State Senior High School in academic year of 2013/2014
. Afterwards,
the method of the research was experimental method, applying quasi experimental
design. The design formulated pre-test and post-test given to comparable classes,
experimental and control ones. Meanwhile, pre-test was done to know both
classes‟
initial states; and post-test was given after treatment for experimental
class. To start the research, the writer took sample from population of grade ten
students of the school consisting of 270 students for total number. The chosen
classes as sample were X-8 as experimental class and X-9 as control class. Having
finished with the data collection, t-test was applied to examine the hypothesis.
Furthermore, the value of t-test was 4.200, higher from the value of t-table. For df
58 at significance level 0.005 the value was 1.671, proofing that the hypothesis
could temporarily be accepted. However, since it was indicated that faulty
happened during the treatment, the hypothesis could not be fully accepted. There
were the use of other things or media able to influence the result of post-test. It
brings a meaning that „sequel movie trailer‟ was not 100% proven effective for
teaching speaking. The supplementary data sought trough questionnaire showed
that the students gave positive responds towards the media.
