Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of the 7E Learning Cycle
mathematical problem-solving ability and the ability of critical thinking ability in
SMP Muhammaduyah 1 Cilacap in the academic year of 2016/2017. The research
variables consisted of three variables, namely the independent variable in the form
7E Learning Cycle and the dependent variable in the form of mathematical
problem solving ability and critical thinking skills. The population in this study is
the eighth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1. Sampling was done by
cluster random sampling technique. The instruments used in data collection in the
form of a test sheet. After an experimental class to get treatment, the obtained
average post test results of mathematical problem solving ability in the
experimental class and control class amounted to 78.18 at 72.23. The average
critical thinking skills of students in the experimental class and control class
amounted to 75.33 at 70.13. Data were analyzed using t-test. Based on the results
of hypothesis testing showed that dengann a = 0.05 was obtained sig. (2-tailed)
0,001 problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills of 0.007. Therefore sig.
The second ability <0.05 can be concluded that the Learning Cycle 7E affects the
ability of mathematical problem solving and critical thinking of students of SMP
Muhammadiyah 1 Cilacap.
