This research was aimed at knowing “The students’ Attitude toward Authentic English Reading Material at Second Grade Students of SMP Negeri 1 Karanglewas in cademic year 2016/2017.” The research was conducted on July toAugust 2016 at SMP Negeri 1 Karanglewas
The research was survey study and aimed to investigate and describe the students’ attitude toward the use of authentic materials in learning English. The sample was 65 students. In collecting the data, the writer used questionnaire and interview as the instruments. Then, the data was analyzed and described.
Having analyzed the data, the writer found a similarity between the result of questionnaire and interview. The result of questionnaire showed that students’ attitude toward authentic text was good at 77%. However, the result of further showed that students’sttitude toward textbooks was fair at 56%, it was believed that using authentic material to learn English offer more benefits than using non-authentic materials (textbook). The result of the research generally showed that the students had positive attitude toward the use of authentic reading materials.
