Abstract

A reservoir is a crucial infrastructure, particularly in the agricultural sector. Its primary function is to serve as awater storage facility. Brani Village is the only village in Sampang District, Cilacap Regency, where a reservoirwas constructed in 2019. With a total paddy field area of 97 hectares, this study aims to: 1) examine the activitiesof rice paddy farmers in Brani Village, Sampang District, Cilacap Regency; 2) assess the impact of reservoirconstruction on the productivity and income of rice paddy farmers; and 3) analyze the socioeconomic impact ofthe reservoir's presence in Brani Village, Sampang District, Cilacap Regency. This research was conducted inBrani Village, Sampang District, from May to June 2024. A quantitative descriptive analysis was employed. Apurposive sampling method was used to select 15 farmers. The results showed that rice paddy farmers benefitingfrom the reservoir in Brani Village planted rice three times a year. The utilization of the reservoir is managed byfarmers who are members of the Water User Farmers Association (P3A). The productivity of rice paddy farmersbenefiting from the reservoir is 5.418 kg per hectare, with an average monthly income of IDR 3,876,666. Theeconomic impact observed is that farmers can cultivate rice three times a year, whereas, before the reservoir'sconstruction, they could only plant it twice a year. This increase in cropping cycles has boosted farmers' income. The social aspect of the reservoir's construction is the strong cooperation in the construction process and the jointuse of the reservoir for irrigation purposes.
