Abstract

Background: Purslane leaves (Portualaca oleracea.L) contain several main compounds, namely flavonoids, alkaloids and omega 3, which can cure inflammation. Spray gel is a gel system that is applied via a spray pump and will produce small or large liquid droplets.
Objective: To determine the anti-inflammatory effect with a minimal effective dose as an anti-inflammatory against Wistar mice and to determine the effect of variations in purslane leaf ethyl acetate extract and base on the physical properties of spray gel preparations.
Method: Purslane leaves are extracted using the fractionation method with ethyl acetate solvent by soaking and evaporating until a thick extract is obtained. The ethyl acetate extract of purslane leaves obtained was made in the form of a spray gel preparation with three different concentrations, namely 0.02%, 0.03% and 0.04% and ointment base as a negative control. The inducer used is carrageenin. Determination of the anti-inflammatory effect was carried out using a caliper to measure the thickness of the edema on the soles of the rats' feet.
Results: It was found that 0.02%, 0.03% and 0.04% ethyl acetate extract spray gel preparations had an anti-inflammatory effect by reducing the thickness of the mouse's paws.
Conclusion: Spray gel preparation of purslane leaf ethyl acetate extract with a small concentration has an anti-inflammatory effect and the greater the concentration of purslane leaf ethyl acetate extract, the greater the anti-inflammatory effect.
