Abstract
Students who have a background of migrating parents tend to behave negatively in
class. Migrating parents pay less attention to their children. This study aims to
describe students' moral intelligence, and analyze the supporting and inhibiting
factors with the background of migrant parents at SD Negeri Brebeg 01 Jeruklegi,
Cilacap Regency. Descriptive qualitative approach with phenomenological method
underlies this research. The informants in this study were students, parents, and
teachers. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and
documentation studies. The data analysis technique uses the Miles Hubberman
model which includes data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and
conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that students' moral
intelligence is influenced by supporting and inhibiting factors. Factors that support
students' moral intelligence are: having good self-control, age and intelligence of
students who have developed well, good communication between parents and
children, parental attention and affection, good environmental influences, social
interactions with family and supportive peers, supportive facilities from parents and
teachers, encouragement from the soul to do good. The inhibiting factors are the
lack of direct interaction, control or supervision, guidance from parents, low selfcontrol,
unstable emotions, age which is still a developmental stage, lack of moral
education from parents, unsupportive families, the influence of association with
friends, and the use of cellphones without control from parents. Students who have
high moral intelligence have self-awareness in doing actions in accordance with
the norms and get full support from parents. Students with moderate moral
intelligence have good behavior still depending on parental orders. Students with
low moral intelligence tend to be active in committing negative actions by
disturbing their friends and their parents pay less attention. Students with selfcontrol
and support from parents can improve moral intelligence.
