Abstract
Corn (Zea mays L.) is the second most crucial carbohydrate-rich food source after
rice. Additionally, corn plays a significant role as a staple food with the potential
to enhance income. Sweet corn, in particular, is valued for its nutritional content,
including antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins, and is considered one of the best
sources of dietary fiber. Fertilization is necessary to improve crop production
through organic or inorganic fertilizers. However, the continuous use of inorganic
fertilizers can lead to the degradation of agricultural land. Soils enriched with
biochar can provide a suitable habitat for soil microbes. This study aimed to
determine the optimal combination of biochar and urea fertilizer treatments for
enhancing the growth and yield of sweet corn. The research was conducted from
November 2023 to January 2024 at the experimental garden of the Faculty of
Agriculture and Fisheries, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The study
employed a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors, consisting of 9
treatment combinations, each replicated three times, and three sweet corn plant
samples per treatment. The biochar treatments were B0= 0 tons/ha, B1= 4 tons/ha,
B2= 6 tons/ha, and the urea fertilizer treatments were U0= 0 kg/ha, U1= 200 kg/ha,
U2= 400 kg/ha. Data analysis was performed using ANOVA, followed by the DMRT
test at the 5% significance level. The results indicated that the application of
biochar and urea fertilizer significantly affected variables such as plant height, leaf
number, leaf area, stem diameter, ear weight with husk, ear weight without husk,
ear diameter with husk, ear diameter without husk, ear length, and root biomass.
