Abstract

The wild silk moth or Attacus atlas is a native Indonesian creature capable of producing silk fibers with high market value. The advantage of wild silk moth fibers lies in their naturally exclusive color variations and the significantly more giant cocoon and thread weight they produce. Silk production in Indonesia still needs to improve, and one crucial factor to consider is the type of feed used. One of the primary food sources for the growth and development of wild silk moth larvae is young mahogany leaves. The availability of young mahogany leaves as feed for wild silk moth larvae has yet to meet the larvae's nutritional needs due to quantity, quality, and continuity constraints. Therefore, nitrogen fertilization can enhance mahogany plants' production, growth, nutritional quality, and continuity. This research aims to determine the most effective combination of nitrogen fertilizer types and doses on the growth of shoots and chlorophyll content in mahogany leaves. The study was conducted from January 2023 to April 2023 in the research garden of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education and the Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries at UMP (Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto). The research method employed was a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with a single factor consisting of 5 treatments, repeated 7 times, with one mahogany seedling population per treatment. The treatmentsincluded P0: Control, P1: 6.8 g/plant (Urea) + 13.7 g/plant (ZA) + 6.8 g/plant (NPK), P2: 3.4 g/plant (Urea) + 6.8 g/plant (ZA) + 3.4 g/plant (NPK), P3: 6.8 g/plant (KNO3) + 13.7 g/plant (ZA) + 6.8 g/plant (NPK), and P4: 3.4 g/plant (KNO3) + 6.8 g/plant (ZA) + 3.4 g/plant (NPK). The data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by DMRT at a 5% significance level. The results showed a significant effect on variables such as the emergence time of shoots, shoot length, the number of leaves aged 4-6 psp (phyllotaxis position), and leaf chlorophyll content.
