The present study reports an attempt to develop learning media in the form
of a vocabulary-building textbook based on Indonesian culture-bound text. It aimed
to develop a learning media which was designed based on the teachers' and
students’ۚ needs.ۚ Thisۚ research was conducted on class VII students of SMPN 2
Sokaraja. The study belongs to an educational Researcher and Development
(R&D). The researcher utilized stages proposed by Borg and Gall (1983). However,
the stages were modified due to the limited time of the research and the situation
during the research. The stages are 1) Finding Potential Problems, 2) Data
Collection, 3) Product Design, 4) Design Validation, 5) Design Revision, 6) Product
Validation and Product Development, 7) Product Testing. The results of the Need
Analysis show that there were two main aspects needed by book users, namely a
book that contains texts about Indonesian culture and has many activities that can
increase vocabulary mastery of seventh graders. The evaluation of the product
basedۚ onۚ experts’ۚ judgmentۚ indicatesۚ thatۚ theۚ book'sۚ componentsۚ areۚ allۚ groupedۚ
into categories that are either excellent or extremely valid.
