Abstract

Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharate L.) is a variety of corn that differs from common corn due to its sweet taste caused by high sugar content in the endosperm. Efforts to increase the production of sweet corn can be done through various methods, one of which is fertilization. Fertilization can be categorized into organic and inorganic fertilization. The objective of this study is to determine the effects of vermicompost and NPK fertilizer doses on the growth and yield of sweet corn. The research was conducted from September 2023 to December 2023 in the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The research used a Randomized Complete Block Design with two factors: vermicompost (V0 = 0 ton/ha, V1 = 10 ton/ha, V2 = 20 ton/ha) and NPK fertilizer for each application (P1 = 100 kg/ha, P2 = 200 kg/ha, P3 = 300 kg/ha). The data collected were analyzed using ANOVA followed by the DMRT 5% test. The results showed that the application of vermicompost influenced plant height at 14 days after planting (DAP), leaf area at 14 and 56 DAP, stem diameter at 56 DAP, detached cob diameter, cob weight with husk, husked cob weight, and root volume. The application of NPK fertilizer influenced plant height at 14 and 42 DAP, leaf number at 28 and 42 DAP, leaf area at 14, 42, and 56 DAP, husked cob diameter, detached cob diameter, husked cob weight, husked cob weight, and root volume. The interaction between vermicompost and NPK fertilizer doses influenced plant height at 14 and 28 DAP.
