Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of pragmatic politeness of imperatives in
declarative utterances on the Corbuzier Podcast on Deddy Corbuzier's YouTube
Channel, episodes uploaded on May 21 and June 27, 2020. This research is a
qualitative descriptive study. The data for this study are in the form of speech by
podcast hosts and guests on the Corbuzier Podcast, episodes uploaded on May 21 and
June 27, 2020. The data sources are the podcast hosts, guests, and their utterances in
the Corbuzier Podcast episodes from May 21 and June 27, 2020. The data collection
process employs the listening method with basic techniques of recording and
Observation nonparticipatory method. The data analysis phase uses the pragmatic
equivalence method with the dividing key-factors technique and then uses the
equalizing technique. The presentation of the analyzed results is done using an
informal method. The results of this study conclude that in the speech of podcast hosts
and guests on the Corbuzier Podcast on Deddy Corbuzier's YouTube Channel,
episodes uploaded on May 21 and June 27, 2020, there are various types of pragmatic
politeness of imperatives in declarative utterances. These consist of five types of
pragmatic meanings from the data source titled "Nekat Jujur Pakai Narkoba depan
BNN" (Daringly Confessing to Using Drugs in Front of the National Narcotics
Agency) with five types, namely speech containing the pragmatic meaning of
command (9 instances), the pragmatic meaning of invitation (4 instances), the
pragmatic meaning of request (2 instances), the pragmatic meaning of permission (7
instances), and the pragmatic meaning of prohibition (4 instances). Meanwhile, the
types of pragmatic politeness of imperatives in declarative utterances in the podcast
titled "Siti Fadila, Sebuah Konspirasi" (Siti Fadila, A Conspiracy) are three types,
namely speech containing the pragmatic meaning of command (1 instance), the
pragmatic meaning of invitation (4 instances), and the pragmatic meaning of
prohibition (2 instances). Overall, the found data consist of (1) ten instances of
commands, (2) four instances of invitations, (3) two instances of requests, (4) seven
instances of permissions, and (5) six instances of prohibitions. Data relating to the
pragmatic meaning of command is the most dominant, likely due to both episodes
discussing matters that could affect physical health and urging listeners to be more
cautious of behaviors that could harm themselves.
