Abstract

Banyumas Regency has a large number of schools and some of them are located
on the edge of the street. It is very dangerous for students who want to cross The
Street using crossing facilities because many vehicles pass at high speed.
Considering that children are still careless when crossing, it is necessary to
evaluate the implementation of the School Safety Zone (ZoSS). Based on the
evaluation, the behavior of pedestrians and the escorts (whether it is safe or not)
can be observed. In addition, it can be observed whether the implementation of
ZoSS at the school has been effective or not. This research aims to analyze ZoSS
on Jend. Gatot Subroto Street, especially in front of SMP Bruderan Purwokerto
and SMP Susteran Purwokerto. This analysis refers to MKJI (1997) and the
Regulation of the Directorate General of Land Transportation No. SK 3236/AJ
403/DRJD/2006. The research was conducted using a questionnaire method to
obtain data on vehicle speed, the behavior of pedestrians, the behavior of escorts,
and the completeness of ZoSS. The research data were analyzed statistically using
a normal distribution (Z-test). Based on the results of data analysis, the behavior
of the pedestrians in the two schools was categorized as safe, while that of the
escorts was categorized as safe in one school only. The characteristics of drivers
passing ZoSS were classified as poor with a score of 37.09%. They drove their
vehicles beyond the speed limit allowed at the ZoSS location (30 km/h). It can be
concluded that ZoSS on Jend. Gatot Subroto Street is not completely effective
because several variables are not in accordance with the provisions of the
Regulation of the Directorate General of Land Transportation (2006), namely the
unsafe behavior of escorts and vehicle speeds that exceed the maximum speed
limit.
