Abstract

The problem formulation of this qualitative research included the planning, implementation, supporting factors, obstacle factors, and the outcomes of MABIT (Night Activities of Nourishing Faith and Taqwa) using the phenomenological method and Ethno pedagogy approach. The subjects of this research were the school principal, MABIT coach, classroom teacher, parents, and students. The data were collected using observation, interview, and documentation then analyzed using a non-statistic method including data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Meanwhile, the data validation and the data validity test used credibility technique with source and technique triangulation. The results showed that MABIT in SD Muhammadiyah Cipete Cilongok Banyumas included:(1)planning the activities starting from determining the base and method, creating administration and the activities. The activities were based on the Al-Quran and Hadits and adapted from the local culture, (2) the activities of MABIT used 4 methods of imitation, amtsal, observation, and targhib wa tarhib which were done in two different times consisting of one day-night MABIT and two-day Islamic Camp MABIT,(3) the supporting factors included full support from the school principal, committee, teachers, parents, local communities and officials, while the obstacles included the facilities and infrastructures, prayer room, toilet, and teachers quantity. The solutions which had been carried out included having the activities that did not need a spacious place, performing salah in the mosques nearby, and involving the alumni, and (4) the students could improve their discipline character if they understood the essence of the Al-Quran and implemented the characters of Rasulullah SAW. MABIT is a character education tool that can strengthen students' discipline character by making local culture the source of its activities, which will help to preserve community culture.
