This study aims to describe the types of conjunctions and their semantic
relationships used in the editorial in the December 2021 edition of Kompas
newspaper. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The data in this study are
conjunctions contained in the editorial of the December 2021 edition of Kompas
newspaper. The source of the data for this research is the editorial of the December
2021 edition of the Kompas newspaper, which consists of 26 editorial texts. This
study uses three research stages, namely the stage of providing data, the stage of data
analysis, and the stage of presenting the results of data analysis. In the data provision
stage, the researcher used the listening method, with the basic recording technique and
the advanced technique, namely the noting technique. At the data analysis stage, the
researcher used the distributional method with the basic technique for direct elements
(BUL) and an advanced technique, namely the reverse technique. At the stage of
presenting the results of data analysis, the researcher used an informal presentation
method. The results of this study found that coordinating conjunctions were 291 uses
consisting of; the coordinating conjunction of addition relations which states
expansion is 240, coordinating conjunctions of addition relations which express
contradictions as much as 2, coordinating conjunctions of resistance relations which
states strengthening as much as 3, coordinating conjunctions of resistance relations
which states expansion as much as 8, and coordinating conjunctions of election
relations as much as 38 uses. Correlative conjunctions found 8 uses consisting of; the
correlative conjunction of the addition relationship which expresses expansion by 3,
the correlative conjunction of the resistance relationship which states the
strengthening of 4, and the correlative conjunction of the selection relationship with 1
use. There are 554 subordinating conjunctions which consist of; There are 4 initial
time limit relationships, 29 concurrent time relationships, 16 sequential time
relationships, 36 events ending time relationships, 19 conditional relationships, 23
objective relationships, 15 concessional relationships, 44 comparative relationships,
causal relationships as many as 34, as many as 12 result relationships, 62 ways
relationships, 32 tool relationships, 9 complementation relationships, 217 attributive
relationships, and 2 use comparison relationships. Conjunctions between sentences
found 39 uses consisting of; conclusion relationship 12, contradiction relationship 21,
order relationship 2, addition relationship 2, and affirmation relationship 2 usage.
