Abstract

This study was aimed to find out the types and frequency of reading
strategies and the difference of the strategies used by students across intakes. It
was held in English Department of Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto.
Total of 76 students from different intakes (2013, 2014, and 2015) participated in
the study. A questionnaire was distributed to the students to find out the strategies
used by them. The results showed that students used Problem-Solving Strategy,
Global Strategy, and Support Strategy (1), overall strategies were used in
moderate frequency with Problem- Solving Strategy as the one which was mostly
used with mean scores 3.07 (2), and there was no significant difference of the
strategies used by students across intakes (3). Based on that result, several
suggestion can be made to help lecturer improve their teaching and help the
students improve their reading understanding.
