The research entitled The Use of Conjunction in Descriptive Texts of Grade
VII Students SMP Negeri 1 Purwojati in 2019 aims to describe types of conjunction in
descriptive texts made by grade VII students of SMP Negeri 1 Purwojati. This is
qualitative descriptive research. The research result obtains 95 data consisting of 24
conjunctions between sentences data and 71 conjunction in sentences data. Betweensentence-
conjunctions include 21 data of addition conjunction, namely 8 data of
selain itu, 7 data of dan, 1 data of namun, 2 data of bahkan, 1 data of selain, 1 data of
oleh karena itu, and 1 data of tetap; 2 data of conclusion conjunction, namely 1 data
of oleh sebab itu, and 1 data of maka dari itu; 1 data of order conjunction, namely
lalu conjunction. Conjunctions in sentences include coordinative, subordinative, and
correlative conjunction. There are 33 data of coordinative conjunction consisting of
25 data of dan, 2 data of tetapi, 2 data of atau, 1 data of sedangkan, 1 data of dan
juga, 1 data of dimana, and 1 data of namun; there are 35 data of subordinative
conjunction consisting of 13 data of yang, 3 data of dengan, 7 data of untuk, 2 data of
karena, 2 data of sehingga, 2 data of setelah, 2 data of waktu, 1 data of ketika, 1 data
of selain, 1 data of kalau, and 1 data of karena hingga. There are 3 data of correlative
conjunction consisting of 1 data of hingga, 1 data of mulai dari hingga, and 1 data of
karena hingga. Most of the conjunctions have been appropriately used (73 data) and
only few of them have not been appropriate (22 data). Therefore, grade VII students of
SMP Negeri 1 Purwojati in general are considered to be able to use conjunction
appropriately in descriptive text. The students have used conjunction in the descriptive
text they made. The types of conjunction known by the students are two, namely
between- sentences and in-sentence conjunctions.
