Abstract

Avocado (Persea americana Mill.) is a fruit that is widely cultivated in
Indonesia. The variety of production and quality of avocados can be improved by
grafting methods. The aim of the study to determine effect of various stem lengths
and the administration of IBA (Indole Butyric Acid) on the growth of grafting
avocados. The research was conducted in experimental gardens, the Faculty of
Agriculture and Fisheries, University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto, using a
factorial randomized block design with two factors and 3 replications. The first
factor was various entres lengths with 4 levels P1 (entres length 6 cm), P2 (entres
length 9 cm), P3 (entres length 12 cm) P4 (entres length 15 cm). The second
factor was the concentration of IBA (Indole Butyric Acid) with 4 levels A0 (0
ppm), A1 (100 ppm), A2 (200 ppm) A3 (300 ppm). Research results show the
length of the shoots had a significant effect on the number of live grafts, the best
entrete length in treatment P4 (entres length 15 cm) with an average of 80.00%.
The administration of IBA had a significant effect on shoot length, number of
shoots, number of leaves, and shoot diameter, with given IBA 300 ppm. The
interaction of shoot length and IBA administration had a significant effect on
shoot length, number of shoots and number of leaves. The best treatment for shoot
length was P1A3 (entres length 6 cm + 300 ppm IBA), the best treatment for shoot
number was P1A2 (entres length 6 cm + 200 ppm IBA) and the best treatment for
leaf number was P1A3 (entres length 6 cm + IBA 300 ppm).
