The research entitles Types of Acknowledgement (Expressive) Speech Act on
Speech of the Characters of Laundry Show Film by Rizki Balki. This research
describes the types of acknowledgment (expressive) speech act on the speech of
Laundry Show film characters by Rizki Balki. The research used a qualitative
descriptive method. The research data were speeches of the characters consisting of
the acknowledgement (expressive) speech act. The sources of research data were the
characters of Laundry Show film by Rizki Balki. There are 37 data on the speeches of
the film characters consisting of 9 apologizing data, 3 congratulating data, 14
expressing gratitude data, 5 greeting data, 5 accepting data, and 1 praising data. The
research was conducted through three steps: (1) providing data, (2) analyzing data,
and (3) displaying the result of data analysis. In the data provision step, it used a
recording technique, observation nonparticipatory technique, and note-taking
technique. In this step, it used the distributional and pragmatic comparative methods.
The pragmatic comparative method with basic techniques of dividing-key-factors
technique and equalizing method. In the display of the data analysis result step, all
data are displayed using an informal method, a data display using words. According
to analysis result and discussion, it is concluded that the type of acknowledgment
(expressive) speech act based on the classification of acknowledgment (expressive)
speech act types consists of apologizing, congratulating, saying thank you, greeting,
accepting, and praising.
