A Sociolinguistic Analysis of Swear Words Uttered In The Deadpool 2 Movie. Undergraduate Thesis for Sarjana Sastra Degree, English Department, Faculty of Letters, Universitas of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto.
This research aims to analyze the swear words used by the characters in the conversation of movie, especially to identify the types and the reasons for swearing. For those analyses, it can be find out why or the real reasons the characters used swear words in the conversation. Object of the research is Deadpool 2 movie. The utterance that becomes the objects analysis are the uterrences by Deadpool, Cable, Colossus, Domino, Vanessa, Dopinder and the others.
In conducting the research, the researcher applied swearing principles theory proposed by Hughes. There are seven types of swear words; religion terms, anatomy terms, excretion terms, stupidity terms, animal terms, general terms, and genitalia terms. Besides, the researcher also used swear words principles by Andersson to find out the reasons of swearing. There are three reasons for swearing such as psychological motives, social motives, and linguistic motives. The researcher uses qualitative research model. The primary data taken from the script of the Deadpool 2 movie. The other data of this research are many kinds of book, articles, intenet web and journal that related the swear words as the data.
From the analysis, the total frequency of swear words utterences in the movie is 140 times. The most frequent swear words type that appeares in the movie is in general terms (68 times). General terms is the most appearing type in the movie because it is considered to be the most effective way to release emotion feeling, insult someone, and to emphasize what they try to communicate. Furthermore, psychological motives becomes the most frequent reasons to swear words in this film (59 times). In other words, swear words are uttered in order to spontaneously release emotion.
