This article is aimed to know the understanding and responses of the autist persons. This employed a descriptive qualitative method to investigate the level of understanding of the autists on different types of speech acts. The subjects are a real person and a character of an autist in a movie. The data are the verbal and non-verbal responses of the autists. The analysis was done using speech act and their response theory. Based on the analysis, the speech acts made by the interlocutors are directive, representative, expressive and commissive. It is proved that the autist subjects can understand well all the types of the speech acts made by the first persons. The responses made by the autist persons include expressing, offering, disagreeing, giving information, requesting, convincing, asking, ordering, forcing, sulking, accepting, imitating, refusing, agreeing, confusing, and obeying, but there are some unclear responses. In terms of their reaction, both subjects could understand most speeches from other of other people. There are some occasions in which they failed to understand if the speakers talk too fast. It is difficult for them to understand a joke. They also couldn’t understand the situation like the emotional state of others or the real situation before them.
