Abstract

Ibuprofen was categorized as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflamamatory Drugs (NSAIDs) which has useful as analgesic, anti inflammatory, and antiperytic effect but it has poor solubility in water. According to BCS, ibuprofen is classified into class II, it has low solubility and bioavailability. The aim of this study was to increase the dissolution rate of ibuprofen in a solid dispersion system with polymer Polyvinylpyrrolide (PVP) K30 which made by melting method. Solid dispersion system prepared by melting method with ratio of raw materials Ibuprofen-PVP K30, namely : 1:0,5, 1:1, 1:3, and 1:5. As a comparison was made with the physical mixture of the same composition. Characterization of Solid dispersion Ibuprofen with PVP K30 used Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR). The dissolution rate was examined by paddle method in phosphate buffer pH 7,2. Dissolution rate profile showed that solid dispersion of ibuprofen with PVP K30 carrier had a faster compare to physical mixture dissolution rate and pure ibuprofen. This study suggests that preparation of the solid dispersion of ibuptofen in PVP K30 is an effective approach to improve the dissolution rate of ibuprofen.
