Abstract

Cases of hair loss in the world are classified high, but until now the treatment for hair loss is still using synthetic drugs, but if used in long term can cause undesirable side effects. Then it is neccescary to develop using natural ingredients, namely from quinine plants (Chincona succirubra) which contain alkaloid compounds than can be used as stimulants for hair growth. Method: Quinine bark powder was extracted with sokhletation and dried until get a dry extract. An exctract solution was made with etanol solvent with a concentration of 5;10;20;25% (w/v). Test the activity of hair growth stimulant using male guinea pigs for 14 days with an observation interval of 2 days. The parameters observed were hair length and hair mass. Result: The result of hair growth activity tests showed that quinine exctract had hair growth activity and hair mass enhancement compared to normal and negative controls (p<0,05). For the optimum consentration in hair growth and hair mass the is a concentration 20%. Conclusion: Quinine exctract causes the most optimum hair growth at a concentration of 20% by the mechanism of vasodilation of blood vessels.
