Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the teachers’ strategies in EFL class, and to reveal the difficulties the students faced during the implementation of the teaching strategies. This was a survey with three English teachers participated in this research. Three instruments of the research were used to collect the data: observation, interview and questionnaire. Having analyzed the data from five time observation, three time teacher interview, and questionnaire, the researcher found 6 (six) teaching strategies used by the teachers. They are memory strategy (78.39%), cognitive strategy (80.55 %), compensation strategy (61.51%), metacognitive strategy (75.92%), affective strategy (70.37%), and social strategy (75.00%). Moreover this research found six students’ problems in joining English classes when the 6 (six) teaching strategies were implemented. The problems deal with the students’ vocabulary and grammar mastery, listening and writing activities, idea organization, and anxiety with percentage 40.74%, 39.82%, 46.30%, 40.74%, 50.00 %, and 43.51% respectively.
