Abstract
The aim of this study is to find out the most dominant factors contributing
students‟ speaking problems at the fourth semester student of Biology Education
of English Enrichment Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. 22
students of the fourth semester student of Biology Education of English
Enrichment Program of UMP were selected as the sample of this research. The
writer uses questionnaire and interview as the instrument in collecting the data.
This study looked at three aspects, namely: attitude, psychological matters, and
linguistically-related problems. The findings showed that linguistically-related
problem more specific about the grammar and pronunciation mistakes has the
highest percentage among the other factors with total percentage 73.18%; lack of
confident (psychological matters) with 71.5% and lack of vocabulary
(linguistically-related problem) with 70.17% It is followed by their attitude with
total percentage 68.40%; anxiety (psychological matters) with 58.3% and lack of
motivation (psychological matters) with 43.75%. In conclusion, the linguisticallyrelated
problem about grammar and pronunciations mistakes is the most dominant
factors that contributing students‟ speaking problem by the fourth semester
students of Biology Education of English Enrichment Program at Universitas
Muhammadiyah Purwokerto
