The objective of this study is to improve students' confidence and learning
achievement on the theme of Kayanya Negeriku using the Problem Based
Learning (PBL) model. The subject was grade IV at SD Negeri 1 Gambarsari
totalling 27 students consisting of 11 males and 16 females. This was a Classroom
Action Research (CAR), which was carried out in two cycles; each cycle
consisted of the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection.
Each cycle covered of two meetings. Data collection techniques were tests
conducted at the end of the cycle activity and non-test in the form of observation
sheets, questionnaires, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that
the average score of students' confidence in the first cycle was 3.16 with sufficient
criteria. While the second cycle, the average score of students' confidence was
3.98 with good criteria. From both cycles, it can be seen that there was an increase
in the students confidence. From the results of student achievement, there was an
improvement in the first cycle sub-theme 1 with the acquisition of an average of
68.89 with sufficient criteria. Cycle II sub-theme 2 obtained an average of 77.61
with very good criteria. With an improvement in cycle I to cycle II, it can be
concluded that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model
on the theme of Kayanya Negeriku, sub-theme 1 and sub-theme 2, can improve
students' confidence and their learning achievement in the academic year of
2018/2019.
