ABSTRACT
Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) is a process that takes place
in activities to facilitate the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for prediabetes
and diabetes self-care. This management education is an important element for the
care of diabetics and those at risk for this disease. Based on data from the
Banyumas Health Office (2017) it is known that the number of DM patients is
1939. From the data obtained in the opinion of the researcher that the level of DM
patients is still high, one of them is due to non-compliance with taking medication
and also lack of education about DM, where one of the determinants of health is
the level of knowledge. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of
Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) on blood sugar levels and
compliance with taking medication in the prolanis group of Sokaraja II health
center. The research method used was experimental with pre-test and post-test
using a sample of 32 respondents divided into 2 groups, namely the intervention
group and the control group. Data were analyzed using paired t-test for blood
sugar levels and unpaired t-test for medication adherence. The results of this study
showed blood sugar levels for the intervention group 166 mg / dL and the control
group 182 mg / dL with the value of the Paired intervention group t-test 0,000 (p
<0.05) which meant that in the intervention group there were significant
differences in blood sugar levels. then on medication adherence used unpaired ttest
with the results of p-value 0.11 with a value (p> 0.05) which means there was
no significant difference from medication compliance in the intervention and
control groups.
