Abstract

This research is aimed at describing the thinking process of mathematical analogy performed by grade 8 students of SMP N 5 Banjarenegara viewed from the multiple intelligence domains. This research applied the descriptive qualitative method by investigating and figuring the research subject condition based on the facts. The subject of this research was grade 8 students of SMP N 5 Banjarnegara in the academic year of 2017/2018 who were heterogeneously divided into class A – H. The purposive sampling technique was used to gain the sample of 3 students from each domain of the general cognitive such as interactive, introspective, and analytic. The data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and document collection. The analysis model of Miles and Huberman was used to analyze the data. The technique triangulation was conducted to validate the result of the analysis. The results of the research show that students with the interactive and introspective domains are able to master the step of deciding, but lack the skill of connecting and identifying two objects. Meanwhile, students with the analytic domain are able to master the step of deciding and connecting and identifying two objects.
