Background: Pharmacists at Public Health Centers (PHC) play an important role
in the control and success of hypertension patients. Pharmacist counseling to
hypertension patients is a strategic to encourage the active role in assisting the
treatment of hypertensive patients. Management of Drug Self-care and Drug
Consumption Obedience are two aspects that are quite influential in the influence
pharmacist counseling. Objective: This study aims to assess the influence of
pharmacist counseling on the control of hypertensive patients and the success of
hypertensive patients with parameters of self-care management and drug
consumption obedience. Methods: The pra experimental pretest postest design
was used in this study. Pharmacist counseling on the management of self-care and
drug comsumption obedience, under the coordination of each pharmacist in the
PHC, with 42 patients at all research clinics held on January 22, 2018 to March 1,
2018. As for self-care management used questionnaires then Pill Count is used to
measure drug consumption obedience of hypertensive patients. Results: The
results of the analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between
pharmacist counseling and self-care management (p value <0.05). The results of
this study provide general information relating to management of self-care factors
in adult hypertension patients. Furthermore, the result of drug consumption
obedience study found that there were significant differences from non-obedient
respondents consuming the drug with respondents who obey to consume drugs, 32
respondents (76.2%) had high adherence and 10 respondents 23.8%) had low
adherence. Conclusion: Pharmacist counseling is able to improve the management
of self-care and obedience of medication treatment of hypertension patient so that
the success of patient's treatment effect is big enough to make control of
hypertension patient can be controlled seen from decrease of hypertension disease.
