This research was aimed at describing the Ma
thematical reasoning ability
of
grade IX students of SMP Negeri 2
Patikra
ja viewed from the gender. This
research applied the descriptive qua
litative method using Miles and
Huberman
model which covered data reduction, data display, and verification. T
he
purposive sampling technique
was used in this research. The students were
grouped into two categories, b
ase
d on the gender, of male and
female students.
Three students from each group were involved as the so
urce of the data. The data
were
collected through tests, interviews, and documentation. The results of the
resea
rch showed that the Mathematics
reasoning ab
ility of male students was
figured out by making prediction, making c
onclusion from a statement, and
checking the validity of an argument. Meanwhile, that of female students, it was
f
igured out by making prediction
and checking the validity of an argument.
They
are not able yet to precisely make conclusion from a statement.
