The research aimed to describe the type of shifting meaning in the words in drama
scripts. This was a descriptive qualitative. The data in this study were words with
shifting of meaning in the drama Anu by Putu Wijaya. The results of research are:
generalization (extending), specialization (narrowing), amelioration (smoothing),
observing (coarse), synesthesia (exchange), association (equation). There are 46
words with shifting meaning determined according to the type of shifting meaning in
Putu Wijaya's drama Anu, namely: (a) generalization (extending) covering 6 words,
(b) specialization (narrowing) covering 1 word, (c ) amelioration (smoothing)
includes 8 wordS, (d) observation (coarse) with 12 words, (f) association (equation)
with 16 words, and (e) synesthesia (exchange) with 3 words.
