Abstract

This research was designed to know the effectiveness of SQ3R method towards
motivation and intensive reading ability of students of level VIII MTs Al-
Masruriyah Kebumen Baturraden. This research used quantitative approach using
quasi experimental method. The design used in this research was Pretest-Post test
Control Group Design. The population of this research was the students of Level
VIII MTs Al-Masruriyah Kebumen Baturraden: VIIIa, VIIIb, VIIIc that consisted
of 87 students. The samples of experiment class of VIIIb and VIIIa were 30
students and 29 students respectively. Meanwhile, the control class of VIIIc was
28 students. Data of the research were collected using questionnaire of motivation
and reading ability test. The questionnaire used to measure motivation was in the
form of attitude scale which consisted of 20 questions and that used to measure
intensive reading ability was subjective essay test with 5 questions. The data was
analyzed using t test. The result of statistic analysis showed that the independent t
test of student‟s learning motivation was 0,925. Meanwhile, the value of t table
was 2,003 with significance level at 95%. Thus, t statistic < t table (0,925 <
2,003). It indicated that hypothesis, which stated that the implementation of SQ3R
learning method had effect on the improvement of student‟s learning motivation
of MTs Al-Masruriyah Kebumen Baturraden, was rejected. The implementation
of SQ3R method on intensive reading activity had effect on the student‟s reding
ability. Based on the result of statistic analysis of independent t test, the statistic of
intensive reading ability was 3,071. Meanwhile, the t table was 2,003 with
significance level at 95% . Thus, t statistic > t table. It means that hypothesis,
which stated that the implementation of SQ3R learning method had significant
effect on the intensive reading ability of the students of MTs Al-Masruriyah
Kebumen Baturraden, was accepted.
