This research aimed to describie (1) confidence and (2) mathematical connection ability of linear equations performed by students. The subjects of the research were students of grade VIII B at SMP Negeri 1 Wangon. The purposive sampling technique was used to gain appropriate samples. The students were grouped into three: high achiever, moderate achiever, and low achiever. Each group consisted of three students. The data were collected through questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The result of the research revealed that (1) confidence of students in the high achiever group was relatively high, of students in the moderate achiever group was relatively moderate, and of students in the low achiever group was relatively low, and (2) students in the high achiever group had the mathematical connection ability in the way of understanding and applying the concepts of mathematical materials, the concepts of mathematic-integrated subjects, and the concepts of mathematic in daily life; students in the moderate achiever group had the mathematical connection ability in the way of understanding and applying the concepts of mathematical materials, yet less accurate in doing practices, of implementing the mathematical concepts in other, and of implementing in daily life; students in the low achiever group were not able to understand and apply the concepts of mathematical materials and its relation to other subjects, but were able to apply it in the daily life.
