Abstract
The aim of research was to find out whether it was effective to teach vocabulary using word wall game to the first grade of SMP Muhammadyah 1 Purwokerto in Academic year 2012/2013. The population of this research was the first grade students of SMP Muhammadyah 1 Purwokerto. The writer took two classes as the subject of the research, those were class A as control class and class B as experiment one. The method used was experimental research, the treatment was carried out from 14 May to 26 May 2012 in SMP Muhammadyah 1 Purwokerto. The writer used tests (pre-test and post-test) to find the data, in the form of multiple choice. t-test was used to analyze data. After the writer computed the data using t-test formula, the result of the research showed that the students’ ability in experimental class was higher than control. t-test result was 2.144 and t table was 2.000 at degree of freedom 58 (Nx+Ny-2). The hypothesis was accepted because t-test was higher that t-table (2.144>2.000). it means that Word Wall game in teaching vocabulary was effective for teaching vocabulary to the first grade students of SMP Muhammadyah 1 Purwokerto.
