Inflammation is a body's response to tissue damage caused by
microorganisms, mechanical trauma, chemicals and physical influences. Winged
bean plants (Psophocarpus tetragonolobus L.) containing flavonoids, a well
known anti-inflammatory substances. This study aims to determine the antiinflammatory
activity of the ethanol extract of winged bean seed. This is an
experimental research. Winged bean seed powder is extracted by maceration using
ethanol solvent. Antiinflammatory activity test was carried out by rat hind paw
edema induced by carrageenan. Five different groups were used, and winged bean
seed extracts were given at doses of 200, 400 and 600mg/kg. Diclofenac Na was
used as a positive control at dose of 6,3mg/kg and Na CMC was used as negative
control. Formed edema volume ware measured using a plethysmometer and its
thickness were measured used caliper. The results showed that the percent of
inhibition inflammation measured by pletismometer and calipers are 63.57% and
40.36% for positive control, 35.27% and 30.94% for the extract 200mg / kg,
48.97% and 33.5% for the extract 400mg / kg BB, 50,35% and 39.47% for the
extract 600mg / kg. The results showed that the winged bean seed ethanolic
extract has anti-inflammatory activity in minute 180.
