Abstract

Stichopus herrmanni sea cucumbers is an invertebrates that serves as a
sunscreen. The purpose of this research was to determine the physical properties
of sunscreen preparations of Stichopus herrmanni sea cucumber extract and the
effectiveness are expressed in the value of the Sun Protection Factor (SPF).
Cream w/o (water / oil) have been selected because it has a good speneud,
although a bit greasy but the evaporation of water can reduce the burning
sensation in the skin.
Sea cucumber powder was extracted by maceration method. The result is
formulated with a variety concentration of extract, formulation I with 0.05%
extract, formulation II with 0.01% extract and formulation III with 0.2%
extract. Cream w / o then tested with organoleptic test, homogenity, pH, stability,
viscosity, dispersive, adhesive and SPF value. Obtained data was analyzed
descriptively and statistically with ANOVA or Kruskal Wallis.
The result of this research indicated that all cold cream formula with
varying extracts concentrations have good physical properties during storage
based on homogeneity, pH, stability, viscosity, dispersive, and adhesive value.
Cream w /o formulation with variation of concentration can improve the
effectiveness of sunscreens indicated by the greater SPF value that FI (2.11), FII
(3.12), and FIII (3.46).
