Abstract

The research was aimed at knowing whether or not Round Table technique can
improve students‟ reading comprehension. This research was conducted in SMP
Muhammadiyah 3 Randudongkal in the Academic year 2015/2016. This research used a
Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of this research was VIIIA grade of SMP
Muhammadiyah 3 Randudongkal consisting of 29 students. The treatment was carried out in
two cycles with two actions in each cycle from January, 8th 2016 to January, 18th 2016. In
collecting the data the researcher used test, observation, questionnaire, interview, field note,
and documentation. Test used to collect Quantitative data, while Observation, Questionnare,
interview, field note, and documentation was used to collect Qualitative data. Based on the
data analysis, it was found that round table technique could improve the students‟ reading
comprehension. It could be seen from the number of students whose reading score reached
KKM (70) in pre-test was 37.93 % and 68.96 % in post-test 1, and it improved again to 89.65
% in post-test 2. It also reached the criteria of action success which was at least 85 % of
number students‟ reading score who reached KKM (70). Then, it was supported by the
observation result and the questionnaire result which showed improvement 41,38% of the
students positive responses to the implementation of round table technique in teaching
reading from cycle 1 to cycle 2.
