Abstract
This study was aimed at knowing the vocabulary levels of Junior and Senior High School National Examination, the number of words that students should attain the 95% comprehension, and the percentage of the words in JHS and SHS English National Examination texts covered in Coxhead‘s (2000) Academic Word List. The method of the study was used descriptive study. The technique of data collection was only documents of National Examination text 2011 to 2015. The instrument of this study was a program based computer. It was Cobb developed Web Vocab Profilers program which was inspired and based on RANGE program. The result of the study, (1) vocabulary levels of Junior and Senior High School National Examination texts were the 9,000-word level. It means that a learner would know the top 9,000 words in the British National Corpus High Frequency Word List, it could be seen in vocabulary level table that 95% comprehension above were in level K-9. In every examination was provided the different percentage of the vocabulary level. In average, JHS NE texts covered only 96.14%, while in SHS NE texts covered 97.92%. (2) The number of words that students should be achieved for 95% comprehension which passed the 2,000-word levels were in JHS NE texts, students required to know 273 new word families or 24.03% of the total types (different words) in the texts, while SHS NE texts were 129 new word families or 24.31% of the total types in the texts that students should know. (3) Interdisciplinary academic words in Coxhead‘s (2000) AWL account for around 3.26% and 5.65% in JHS and SHS NE texts sequentially. The difference of description was caused by the proportion of text types covered in the texts. Larger proportion of dialogues for instance was found in JHS NE texts than in SHS NE texts.
