The research entitled “The Students‟ Ability in Retteling the Content of Short
Story in Grade VII A MTs Negeri 1 Rakit Banjarnegara regency Academic Year
2014-2015”. The aim of the research was to know the students ability in retelling the
content of short in grade VII A MTs Negeri 1 Rakit Banjarnegara regency.
The data of the research were the result of students‟ ability in retelling the
content of the short story. The source of the research was 30 students of class VII A
MTs Negeri 1 Rakit Banjarnegara which consisted 0f 13 male students and female
students. The data was taken by non-test way. The result of the non-test was analyzed
by descriptive quantitative approach. The scoring criteria of retelling the content of
short story consisted of 6 aspects as follow; the content suitability with short story
text, the cohorence of the plotting, telling the character, the Indonesian
comprehensiveness, pronunciation, and the fluency.
Based on the analysis data, the highest score was 100 and the lowest score was
47. Based on the classification of the students ability of class VII A MTs Negeri 1
Rakit Banjarnegara regency, it showed that 17 students (56,67%) had a very good
ability, mean while 4 students (13,33%) had good ability, 6 students (20%) had fair
ability, and 3 students (10%) had insufficient in retelling the content of the short story
entitled “budaya kucing”. Based on the data aforementioned, the conclusion is that the
students with a very good and good ability is more than >50% compared with the
students with fair and insufficient less than <50%.
