Abstract
This research aimed to find out the correlation (1) between students’
academic self-concept and English pronunciation, (2) between students’ social
self-concept and English pronunciation, (3) between students’ personal selfconcept
and English pronunciation, and (4) between students’ overall self-concept
and English pronunciation. The method used correlation descriptive research
which was conducted in English Education Department in Muhammadiyah
University of Purwokerto in academic year 2016/2017. The subjects of this
research were 55 students of the second semester of English Education
Department. The questionnaire and test were used to collect the data. The
questionnaire was self-concept questionnaire, and it was divided into three
categories; academic, social and personal self-concept and each of them was used
as the research problems. Then, for the test was pronunciation test of reading
aloud. To analyze the data, this research used percentage item, correlation product
moment and df formula. The result of this research was taken from correlation
product moment. The analysis result showed that there were positive and
significant correlation between students’ self-concept and English pronunciation.
The more the students know their self-concept the better their pronunciations will
be.
