Purple yam (Ipomoea batatas., L) is a kind of purple to purplish red from the
Convolvulaceae family. Purple yam have antioxidant activity derived from
anthocynin. Anthocyianin is a pigment that can be used as a natural dye and can
replace synthetic color in formulations of lipstick. Safety test is one of the
requirements before raw materials can be sold to the general public. Testing of
skin irritation effects from raw materials or topical dosage products is an
important element of safety procedures. The irritant reaction can harm and
threaten the lives of its users. This study aims to measure the stability, safety and
hedonic of purple yam lipstick. Stability test method by observed the change of
color, shape and smell for 30 days of storage and compared with lipstick top
leader market, safety test is done by assessing the emergence of irritation reaction
in the form of udema and erythema on albino rabbit as much as 30 with 6
treatment that is without treatment, base, topical lipstick top leader market and
purple yam lipstick concentration of 15%, 20% and 25%. The hedonic test was
conducted on 80 respondents by assessing texture, masking, color and smell of
lipstick using hedonic scale. The results showed that purple yaw lipstick has
stability such as lipstick top leader market and no change of color, shape and odor
during storage, lipstick have very mild irritation with score 0,00 and for hedonic
level of purple yaw lipstick 15% concentration is not favored by respondent with
presentase value is 57,10% , Whereas purple yaw lipstick is 20% and 25% is like
by respondents with presentase value repectively is 63,75% , 66,25% . Based on 4
assessment criteria, texture and sweetness of purple sweet potato lipstick are not
like by respondents while the color and aroma are favored by respondents. The
conclusion of this research is lipstick has good stability, safe for use and for
lipstick concentration 20% and 25% like by respondent whereas purple yaw
lipstick 15% concentration not like respondent. Conclusion purpel yam lipsticks
are satability, safety and like by respondent to lipstick 20 and 25% concentrations.
