Abstract
The study entitled the effectiveness of sandpaper alphabetic media as a
media development of letter recognition skill of first year students at TK UMP
Pembina (UMP Coaching Kindergarten School) Kembaran Sub-district of
Banyumas regency in even semester academic year 2016/2017. It aimed to
determine whether or not the sandpaper alphabetic media was effective in
improving the ability of the pupils to recognize letters in the first year of the
school. The hypothesis proposed was the effectiveness of the sandpaper
alphabetic media to letter recognition skill in the students of first year at the
kindergarten. The sample of the study were students in first year consisted of 34
students. The study applied an experimental method with pretest-posttest control
group design divided into experimental group (group exposed the treatment) and
control groups (group with no treatment) with a descriptive qualitative approach.
The data were collected through observation sheets that had been tested for
validity and reliability through construction validity with preliminary tryout. The
analysis discovered that the sandpaper alphabetic media was effective in
improving the letter recognition skill for the first year students of TK UMP. The
significant experimental group obtained 0.000 in Wilxocon signed rank test less
than 0.05 than the significant control group which was 0, less than 0.05 but the
improved average score could be seen clearly in the experiments class which were
higher than the control class with pretest score was 41.06 and posttest was 70.96
and the increased score was 29.9. The control group obtained 25,82 in the pretest
and 42.82 for posttest and the increased score was 17. It can be drawn that there
is a correlation in sandpaper alphabetic media to the letter recognition skill for
the first year TK UMP.
