The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of whisper and guessing games in teaching retelling story. This research was conducted at MTs Muhammadiyah Bumiayu in academic year of 2011/2012.
The experiment was carried out in December 2011. The method of this research was quasi experiment. The total sample was 46 respondents. The respondents were divided into control and experimental class. In collecting data, the writer used a test as instrument. The test was administered twice. Then, the first was pre-test and the second was post-test. The test was a spoken test based on theme their choise. After getting the data the writer used t-test to analyze the data collected. The method of the data analysis was quantitative.
Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that the test result was 2,225 , while t-table score at significance level of α = 0,05 for degree of freedom (df) : 44 was 2,0154. So, the t-test was higher than t-table ( 2,225 > 2,0154 ). It means that the hypothesis which stated that there was possitive effect in teaching retelling story using whisper and guessing games at eight grade students’ of MTs Muhammadiyah Bumiayu in academic year of 2011/2012 was accepted.
