Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of written corrective feedback toward students’ English writing proficiency. The treatment was conducted from 15th of April up to 24th of May. This experimental research involved: experimental class consisting of 34 students and 33 students of control class senior high school of Patikraja academic years 2016/2017. The experimental class was XI IPS 4 while the control class was XI IPS 3. The test was used in collecting data, namely pre-test and post-test. The test was writing recount essay. Statistical calculation gave 53.78 as the mean score of pre-test and 77 as the mean of post-test in experimental class. Meanwhile, the mean score of pre-test and post-test in control class was 55.07 and 64.8. So, there was improvement from the pre-test and post-test as for about 23.22 in experimental class and in the control class was 9.72. Furthermore, the data was analyzed by using t-test. Based on the computation, t-test result was 2.64 and the t-table was 1.66864. It means that t-test result was higher than t-table (2.64>1.66864). It could be concluded that written corrective feedback was effective to teach students’ English writing proficiency for eleventh-grade students of SMA N Patikraja in academic year 2016/2017.
