The research which entitled “ An Effort to Improve News Writing Ability at VIII A Student Of SMP 10 November Binangun with Contextual Approach Academic Year 2010-2011”. This research aimed to Improve News Writing Ability at VIII A Students of SMP 10 November Binangun. This Research is Classroom Action Research ( CAR ) with the subject of the research were the students at class VIII A of SMP 10 November Binangun, the number of students were 36, students comprised of 17 males and 19 females. The process of this research was done in 2 cycles, each cycles consisted of 2 actions, each actions was 2 x 4 minutes. The technique for collecting data used test an non-test. Test consisted of Pretest and posttest whereas non-test which were teacher’s observation and students observation during teaching learning process. Each learning of news writing of news writing with contextual approach by implementing the seven component of CTL which were constructivisme, inquiry, questioning, learning community, modeling, reflecting, authentic assessment.
The result of research showed that news writing students ability in each cycle improved. Pretest the complete cycle I student learn there is 10 student or 30,30%, posttest the complete cycle II learn 28 student or 77,78%.
