Abstract
Antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract ofred betel leavesagaints
Streptococcus mutans has been studied. Dried red betel leaves was extracted by
using maceration method with ethanol 70%. Ethanolicextract was diluted with
Dimethylsulfoksida (DMSO) 10% and there arefivetreatment groups: 50%, 75%,
and 100%, extract solution, negative control/solventcontrolwithDMSO10% and
positive controlwith streptomysin. The results showed antibakterial activity of
ethanolic ectract of red betel leavers with concentration 50%, 75%, 100% and
positive control had antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans, but
negative control/solvent didn’t have antibacterial activity against Streptococcus
mutans.TLCresultsshowedthat the e. e ofred betel leavescontainedflavonoids,
tanin, and alkaloid.
