Abstract

Background: Epilepsy is a cronic disease that requires long-term treatment, thus
increasing the possibility of side effects from the use of epilepsy drugs. Based on
the information spread in the community inggu plants use to treatment of
epilepsy. Inggu contain active compounds such as, coumarin and rutin.
Experimental reports coumarine and rutin have shown anticonvulsant activity.
Objective: This study aims was prove the anticonvulsant effect of ethanol extract
of leaves inggu (Ruta angustifolia Pers.) PTZ-induced in mice, determine the
effective dose of the anticonvulsant and determinant the class of compound.
Method:. This was an experimental research with Post test Only Control Group
Design. The samples of the research were 30 Balb/c mice divided into 6 groups :
induced control only induction PTZ, solvent control was treated with CMC
(Carboxy Methyl Cellulosa) aquadest 0.5%, positive control was treated with
phenobarbital 18,2 mg/kgBB, and 3 treatment groups dose I, dose II, dose III
which were treated with ethanol extract of leaves inggu doses 21,94
mg/kgBB,43,88 mg/kgBB, and 87,76 mg/kgBB. Treatment was given by gastric
sonde. After 30 minutes mice induced-ptz by intraperitoneal (i.p). Data obtained
in the form of onset time and quantal protection. Data was analyzed with ANOVA
one way test and then by LSD test
Results: ANOVA one way test showed a difference significant (*p<0.05). Ruta
angustifolia Pers. significantly delayed the onset time of convulsions PTZinduced
in doses 87,76 mg/kgBB. Ruta angustifolia Pers. contain alkaloids,
saponin, flavonoida, coumarin and essential oil .
Conclusion:.Ethanol extract of leaves inggu (Ruta angustifolia Pers.) posses
anticonvulsant activity. Ruta angustifolia Pers.contain alkaloids, saponin,
flavonoida, coumarin and essential oil.
