Abstract

This research was aimed to know how good students’ reading comprehension through mind mapping and the students’ problems in reading comprehension through mind mapping. This research was a descriptive research. The population of this research was the fifth semester English Department students at Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto in academic year 2011/2012. Twenty (20) percentpopulation became the sample of this research, so 40 students were chosen as sample. The technique used to collect the data was documentation that was taken from students’ reading result of midterm test documents. For supporting the data, questionaire was also used in this research. After collecting and analyzing the data, it was found that the students’ reading comprehension through mind mapping belonged to fair category (49.18) and there were five problems faced by students, they were: extent of coverage, communication, connection between sections, exploratory, and structure. The data showed that extent of coverage became the first problems faced by students, but the questionnaire result showed that structure became the first. It means that there was no similar result between the data and questionnaire.
