Abstract

This study examines students’ views on Grammarly as an Automatic Writing Evaluation (AWE) tool among English Language Education students at one of the universities in Purwokerto. Writing is a fundamental skill that is also complex in English Language Teaching (ELT), requiring attention to Grammarly, structure, vocabulary, and style. AI-based tools such as Grammarly have offered instant feedback capabilities to help improve students’ writing performance. Using a descriptive quantitative approach, data were collected from 22 University students through a Likert scale questionnaire. The result showed that most students viewed Grammarly positively, especially in detecting grammar and punctuation errors, and ease of use. However, some limitations were also identified, including features limited to the free version and the inaccuracy of feedback for more complex sentences. The study concluded that Grammarly is a useful supplementary tool for improving writing skills, but cannot replace human instruction and feedback.
